Deadline for submissions on Fiji draft constitution passes with no word from govt

8:50 pm on 1 May 2013

There has been no word from the Fiji government about the number of submissions it has received on its draft constitution.

The deadline for submissions was yesterday after two extensions by the regime.

The submission period was widely publicised and saw the attorney-general holding a series of public meetings as well as the Prime Minister, Commodore Frank Bainimarama, appearing on talkback radio to discuss the document.

Submissions could be made online, through the post or by text, but the government didn't respond to requests for information about the number of submissions received or when the constitution will be released.
