Pacific church leader says governments must ensure media freedom

The general secretary of the Pacific Conference of Churches, the Reverend Francois Pihaatae, says Pacific governments have a duty to allow their people freedom of expression.

Marking World Media Freedom Day, Reverend Pihaatae says media must be free of state control and undue interference.

He says to reveal injustice the region needs media that is not afraid to speak the truth and it needs laws that allows journalists to carry out their duties without fear.
