Fiji's former opposition leader, Mick Beddoes, says reported comments by Vanuatu's prime minister during the G77 meeting being held in Fiji are an outrageous affront to the chiefs and people of Fiji.

Moana Carcasses Kalosil has been reported in Fiji media praising the country's prime minister, Frank Bainimarama, as a strong leader who is providing the sort of leadership the Pacific wants.

Mr Beddoes says such comments should be condemned by all the democratic countries at the G77.

Mr Beddoes says the comments further show the shift by the MSG leaders away from the principles of democracy, as enshrined in its founding declaration.

He says Mr Carcasses is signaling that he and his MSG colleagues have no difficulty supporting those who execute coups, commit treason and armed intervention and rely on strong-arm tactics and threats to stay in power.
