Marshall Islands calls for more focus in Pacific Plan

The secretary of foreign affairs in the Marshall Islands, Kino Kabua, says the Pacific Plan needs a more specific focus on issues such as education, health and climate change, which are his country's national priorities.

A team reviewing the Pacific Plan, which aims to foster regional co-operation, has recently held consultations in Majuro.

As well as concerns about the need for a sharper focus, the Marshalls government says often the smaller countries do not get a chance to have an adequate say in the setting of priorities.

It says this limits the relevance of the Plan to these nations.
