The work of the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands will be discussed next week in the capital Honiara at a meeting of RAMSI, the Solomon Islands government and the Pacific Islands Forum.
The ninth meeting of the Enhanced Consultative Mechanism on RAMSI will be followed by Forum Ministerial Standing Committee's annual meeting.

"Both meetings are the mechanisms endorsed by Forum leaders to oversee the work of RAMSI through consultation between the Solomon Islands government, RAMSI, and the Forum secretariat. It's expected they'll cover the mission's activity report for the past year along with its transition to bilateral assistance arrangements. The Forum's secretary general, Tuiloma Neroni Slade, says progress made by Solomon Islands and RAMSI since its deployment almost a decade ago include advancements towards rebuilding key national institutions and the development of enabling conditions for longer-term economic recovery. He says RAMSI stands out as an example of regional cooperation and partnership at its best. Mr Slade also says that although the way RAMSI programmes and activities are delivered is changing, a high level of support will still be provided under the regional mandate."
