Frequent flyer points earned by American Samoa government employees will be put into an account which will help patients and students travel off island from the 1st of June.

The governor, Lolo Matalasi Moliga, says Hawaiian Airlines has accepted his request to create an account for frequent flyer miles earned by government employees.

He says the mileage will be used to help pay for patients who are referred off island for medical treatment or for students who need to travel for educational programmes.

The governor says it is morally wrong for a government employee to gain further benefits from the privilege gained by virtue of their job with the American Samoa government.
