In the Northern Marianas, the former lieutenant governor Timothy Villagomez is back on Saipan to face resentencing.

The United States Marshal escorted Villagomez from a prison in Arizona last week for his resentencing next week.

Villagomez was earlier found guilty of defrauding the Commonwealth Utilities Corporation.

He was sentenced in 2009 to to seven years and three months in prison over purchases of a de-scaling chemical.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit ordered Villagomez be sentenced anew after finding that Judge Alex Munson had made a mistake in calculating Villagomez's original sentence.

Our correspondent in Saipan says there is a possibility that Villagomez could face more jail time
