Man arrested for harbouring PNG fugitive Kapris

9:33 pm on 4 June 2013

Police in PNG have arrested and charged a man for harbouring the escaped high-profile prisoner William Kapris.

The deputy commissioner, Simon Kauba, says informants alerted the police of the whereabouts of Kapris and his accomplice but when they arrived the pair, who escaped from prison last month, had already left.

Mr Kauba was unable to rule out the possibility of a member of his force alerting Kapris about the raid.

The owner of the house has been arrested and charged.

Mr Kauba is appealing for citizens to keep passing information on to the police, saying the two men are dangerous and shouldn't be treated as ordinary people.
