A newly released financial statement for the Northern Marianas shows the government's total fund deficit rose by about 50 million US dollars in the 2011 fiscal year compared to 2010.

The report by the independent auditor, Deloitte and Touche LLC shows the government's total fund deficit rose to almost 370 million US dollars in the 2011 fiscal year compared to 317 million in 2010, despite work hour cuts and other austerity measures in place at the time.

The company says the total fund deficit is triple the amount of the governor's proposed budget of 123 million for the 2014 fiscal year, which begins on October the 1st.

Deloitte data shows that in 2007 the total fund deficit was still below 200 million.
