Sport: Ex captain Fatialofa impressed by Manu Samoa

7:06 am on 15 June 2013

The former Samoa rugby captain Peter Fatialofa is impressed by the progress he is seeing in the current team's performances.

The Manu are taking part in an international quad series in South Africa this month, and opened their campaign with a first-ever win over Scotland on Sunday.

A repeat performance against Italy tomorrow morning will set up a likely clash against the Springboks next weekend.

Peter Fatialofa, who now coaches the Samoa women's team, says the men are heading in the right direction.

"You look at World Cup 2007 and you compare it to the team they throwing on the field on Friday. There was about 11 players that played when we had that awful outcome - now they've all matured and they're starting to pay dividends, and with two more years until the next World Cup they're coming together nicely."
