The French prime minister, Jean-Marc Ayrault, is expected in New Caledonia next month as part of a tour, which will also take him to Asia.
The trip has been announced by the French newspaper, Le Figaro.
The reports says he will help prepare a meeting of the signatories of the Noumea Accord, which next year is due to enter its final phase, with a possible referendum on self-determination before 2018.
Mr Ayrault will reportedly also visit South Korea and Malaysia to negotiate arms contracts.
