Samoa tourism leaders hold meeting to face crisis

6:15 pm on 20 June 2013

Samoan tourism leaders have held a large industry-wide meeting in an attempt at greater unity and planning for what they hope will be a better peak tourist season.

More than 60 operators attended the meeting yesterday to discuss an issues paper for the Tourism Development Plan 2014-2018.

One hotelier says it's a positive sign that so many turned up, and hopes the media attention in the past few weeks has awakened the industry to see that a united approach is best.

After claims of a crisis in the industry and low arrival numbers, the Prime Minister recently told hoteliers they should take responsibility for their own future as the government has done enough.

The hotelier says it's critical hotels take ownership for their industry, and that there are still many issues to be discussed.
