Papua New Guinea's chief secretary to government, Sir Manasupe Zurenuoc, has welcomed media reports that the former secretary for the department of community development, Joseph Klapat, has filed legal proceedings against the national government.
It was reported earlier this week that Mr Klapat was suing the government and Sir Manasupe for defamation.
Sir Manasupe had placed advertisements advising service providers that Mr Klapat was no longer the department's secretary and any commitments made by him would not be honoured by the state.
Sir Manasupe says he welcomes the court challenge and says Mr Klapat has that right.
But he says he is happy with the action the government took and their lawyers will vigorously oppose the suit.
