PNG ruling party to hold national convention this week

Papua New Guinea's ruling political party, the People's National Congress, the PNC, is holding its convention in Lae this week.

This is the first national convention since it won last year's general elections and formed the government.

The general secretary, Edward Mike Jondi, says during the convention the party is expected to reaffirm the policies that were the key to winning the election, and which are now embraced by the Peter O'Neill government.

He says the party is also expected to review its constitution to accommodate changes made or being proposed to strengthen political parties in the country.

Leaders of the parties in coalition with the PNC will be invited to attend.
