A Tuvalu opposition member says the current government is delaying reconvening Parliament to avoid a motion of no confidence.
Taukelina Finikaso says last Friday's by-election win means the opposition, led by Enele Sopoaga, now has eight seats, while the government of Willy Telavi has seven seats.
He says the government has not called Parliament since December last year.
Mr Finikaso says the opposition has asked the Governor General to use his authority to reconvene the legislature.
"We think that it is an urgent matter since we have been in this uncertainty for over seven months now. We feel as though the nation cannot be left like this, in a state of uncertainty for so long. There is a an urgency on the part of the Governor General to see that Parliament is held."
Mr Finikaso says they hope Parliament will be reconvened within the next month.
