The Supreme Court in Samoa has sentenced to eight years in jail a blind man for raping a 22 year old blind woman who was living with the defendant's family four years ago.

The convicted rapist was jointly charged with his father on the same charge.

But after a trial before a panel of assessors the charges against his father were dismissed.

The police say the victim has a child from the unlawful sexual relationship with the defendant.
