Sport: Fiji and Samoa to battle it out for 9th at netball youth champs

10:55 am on 30 August 2013

Samoa will take on Fiji in the quest for ninth spot at the netball youth championships in Glasgow after both sides won their latest matches.

Fiji beat Namibia 67-49 and Samoa took care of the hosts Scotland 50-35.

The result means Samoa have already gone better than their previous placing of 11th.

The captain Analina Tone says they are pretty familiar with Fiji, who they beat 2-1 in a series in June, and the challenge is to not be predictable.

"We played them for a curtain raiser in Samoa two months ago so we've got a rough idea of how they play but you never know because they've had a whole two months to improve and so have we so we're just going to go away and focus on what we did well during this past game and then see what we can do better and then work hard on that."

Elsewhere Papua New Guinea beat Singapore 49-46 to advance to tonight's play-off bid for 13th and 14th against Northern Ireland.

PNG came 16th at the last Youth Championships four years ago.
