The Methodist Church in Fiji says one of its main priorities is to have better engagement with other church groups and religions and to promote harmony towards the different races of Fiji.
It's newly inducted president, Tuikilakila Waqairatu, outlined his vision for a healthy church in this mornings opening address for its annual conference.
The church's secretary for communication, Reverend James Bhagwan, says the aim is to have a strategic plan in place for the church.
He says Fiji is known as the melting pot of the South West Pacific, and there is a lot of emphasis on living in a pluralistic society.
"We have many races, many different religious groups, and often in the past, although the Methodist church historically has always stood for inclusivity, and respect and tolerance for those that are different, the other, the practice of loving your neighbour, unfortunately in the past in Fiji this has not been the case."
Reverend James Bhagwan says the leaders have decided to make this a priority, and something that is very important for the largest church in Fiji.
The conference is scheduled for four days.
