The Fiji Methodist Church says it hopes that past divisions will be kept in the past, as its annual conference marks the beginning of reconciliation and healing.
On Sunday, six former Methodist Church Presidents participated in the induction service of their new president, Tuikilakila Waqairatu.
The church's secretary for communication, Reverend James Bhagwan, says of deeper significance was the participation of Reverend Josateki Koroi.
The Reverend Koroi's presidency ended during the post 1987 coup period when the Methodist church was split into factions, and he didn't have the opportunity to perform duties as a former leader.
He says Reverend Koroi's participation in the service will hopefully mark the beginning of reconciling the different factions and moving forward.
"The past presidents were not only taking part in the service, they were able to have fellowship together, that is something that the current leadership is very concerned about, ensuring that the divisions of the past remain just that, in the past. But that the healing and the reconciliation process will take place to bring the leaders and the church closer."
