Two people have been charged with manslaughter and another with being party to manslaughter in connection with the death of a 14-year-old girl in Tonga.
The girl was admitted to Vaiola Hospital in the capital, Nuku'alofa, on Thursday with serious injuries and died the next morning.
The police commissioner says the couple charged with manslaughter are a 34-year-old woman and a man of simliar age who are both related to the victim.
Grant O'Fee says the woman charged with being a party to manslaughter is not related to the victim but police are not revealing the dead girl's relationship with the other defendants.
"I mean I know that sounds a little pedantic, there's just issues of other children, the deceased's siblings and we're just trying to do our best to safeguard their identity so we're not releasing the relationship at the moment."
Grant O'Fee says he expects the trio will appear in court for a bail hearing this Friday.
