Four defendants in the largest drugs case in the Cook Islands history are up for trial this week.

Mark Franklin, Dina Matapo, Mere King and Riki Carlson are facing trial by judge and jury in a special jury session starting on Monday.

Justice Colin Doherty, who has already sent three co-defendants to prison, will be presiding over the two-week-long trial.

One of the accused, Mark Franklin, is an ex-New Zealand and Cook Islands police detective, who faces four charges of selling cannabis and one of possessing cannabis for sale or supply.

All have pleaded not guilty to their charges.
