Fiji's prime minister, Commodore Frank Bainimarama, has been appointed president and chairman of the Fiji Hosinsun Federation, which covers martial arts.

The Fiji Sun reports that the appointment was made by the president of the World Hapkido Federation, Won Chong So.

A South Korean professor, Seung Lo Rhee, says Commodore Bainimarama was chosen because of his commitment to taekwondo and martial arts ever since its introduction to Fiji a few years back.

The Prime Minister says they would like to take on board taekwondo not only for martial arts training, but for sports in general after its success in the military and in the security forces as a whole.
