American Samoa's Ofu Airport re-opening to commercial flights

The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration has re-certified Ofu Airport in American Samoa's Manu'a island group.

This will allow Inter Island Airways to resume flights in the very near future.

The airport was decertified by the FAA after Inter Island stopped services in late 2010 because the runway was deemed too short for its 19-seater plane.

But last month the territorial government reached an agreement with the airline to lease the government's own plane, a 9-seater aircraft.

Inter Island is expected to shortly announce a new service to Ofu under a new branded name, Manu'a Air.
