Samoa fundraises for blindness and helping young people

A private sector fundraising dinner in Samoa has raised over 9,000 US dollars for the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Trust.

The proceeds of the event, which was organised by the Samoa Chamber of Commerce, will be matched by the United Kingdom's Department for International Development.

The Chamber's President and Samoa's representative for the Trust, Namu-lau-ulu Sami Leota says the funds will benefit two projects: avoidable blindness and exceptional young people.

He says the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Trust supports projects that aim to make real and enduring impacts on the lives of people who live within the Commonwealth.
