Sport: David Tua picks up injury, bout in doubt

10:28 am on 7 August 2013

The Samoa-born boxer David Tua has suffered a calf strain in training and his fight at the end of the month against towering Russian Alexander Ustinov in Auckland is in doubt.

Tua's camp says the August 31st bout is yet to be postponed and he will be assessed over the next few days.

The 40 year old Tua says in the past he has gone into fights carrying injuries but the stakes are too high at the moment, and it's important to be smart.

Organisers say the fight will definitely go ahead but if Tua needs time to heal, it could be postponed for, at the most, four weeks from the original date.
