Chinese aquaculture project considered on French Polyensia's Makemo

The French Polynesian government says its discussions with China's Jingmin Fisheries about a joint project have shifted focus from Hao atoll to Makemo.

Tahiti-info says the switch was announced by the marine resources minister, Tearii Alpha, amid a fresh visit by the Chinese delegation.

The fish farm project was mooted and initiated by the previous government, which last year claimed that dozens of millions of dollars would be invested in the venture.

The Chinese delegation is continuing to assess the aquaculture project to determine its location before signing a formal deal with the French Polynesian authorities.
