6:10 am on 5 August 2013

A meteorologist, who is also a board member of the LBJ Medical Centre in American Samoa, has been appointed interim chairman of the board of directors.

Mase Akapo Leilua, who has been head of the National Weather Service in Pago Pago for many years, has been appointed by the governor, Lolo Matalasi Moliga, as interim board chairman.

He replaces Sandra King-Young who resigned to take over a new government directorship post.

Mase will serve as interim board chair until two more members of the five-member board are confirmed by the Senate.

And once the last two members are confirmed, the board can then meet to elect their own permanent chairman and vice chairman.
