New online registry to help speed up PNG business

new online business register in Papua New Guinea is expected to speed up day to day operations.

The new tool, developed by the Investment Promotion Authority with support from the World Bank's IFC and the New Zealand Aid Programme, allows companies to be registered in a quick and simple online process.

The International Finance Corporation's resident representative in PNG Carolyn Blacklock says doing business will be less cumbersome for the thousands of businesses in PNG, as the registry includes new online payment options.

"Security in Papua New Guinea is challenging for many businesses. At present time you have to draw cheques, you have to send people down to the registry office to either lodge new applications for a business or to fill out your annual report."

Carolyn Blacklock says the new online tool will also encourage thousands of small, informal businesses in PNG to register.
