Australia's minister for international development, Melissa Parke, says Australia is to provide nearly 10 million US dollars to improve water and sewerage services in Honiara in Solomon Islands.

Ms Parke says access to safe water and good sanitation is essential.

She says the funding, under the Solomon Islands - Australia Partnership for Development, will be made available over the next two years.

Ms Parke says the work will include replacing and upgrading pipes to increase the safety, reliability and reach of services.
