Statistics released by Indonesia's National Commission for Child Protection says West Papua has the country's worst rates of child labour.

The commission says the number of child labourers, or labourers under the age of 17, has reached 4.7 million children in Indonesia.

Tempo Imperatif reports that of this figure, 34.7 percent are in West Papua.

Data from the Central Statistics Agency indicates that over a third of the child labourers are aged below 13.

Indonesia has set a target to be free of child laborers by 2020.
