Australia to boost awards and scholarships for PNG

5:01 am on 22 July 2013

A revamped Australia Awards Information Centre has been opened in Port Moresby to encourage and assist more people in Papua New Guinea to apply for scholarships for study in Australia.

The head of AusAid in PNG says there are different awards and scholarships on offer.

Stuart Schaefer says since 2003, 1,800 Papua New Guineans have received awards from Australia to further their studies either locally or in Australia.

"What the information centre does, it's actually a place in which applicants can find out about these scholarships and fellowships, they can keep in touch with other alumni, they can also get advice about preparing themselves for positions after they come back in the public sector or private sector or further study."

Stuart Schaefer says priority areas include health, education, law and justice, public sector management and transport infrastructure.
