The New Zealand foreign minister, Murray McCully, has announced the appointment of Joanna Kempkers as the new High Commissioner to the Cook Islands.
He says Ms Kempkers has previously served as Deputy High Commissioner in the Cook Islands and Fiji.
She has also worked as Trade Advisor in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade's Pacific Division and as part of the New Zealand delegation to the OECD in France.
Mr McCully says the Cooks Islands is one of New Zealand's closest neighbours with close historical ties, unique constitutional arrangements and a common citizenship and currency.
Ms Kempkers will replace John Carter.
