The Supreme Court in Samoa has sentenced a man to three years in jail for causing bodily harm after he admitted to assaulting his seven-month old baby daughter in May.

According to the police, the 47-year-old man, Ietitaia Tapumanaia, slapped the child on the cheek and then threw her on the bed so that she hit a wall.

She suffered serious injuries.

The court has heard the defendant committed the offences because he was unable to stop her crying.

The child is now looked after by the Samoa Victim Support Group.
