American Samoa's delegate to the US Congress says his territory is without an airport air traffic control tower because of a federal formula used to determine funding.
Faleomavaega Eni Hunkin has told a US Senate committee that the cost ratio used by the US government is discriminatory.
American Samoa is the only US territory without an airport tower even though American Samoa is an international destination and has one of the longest runways in the U.S.
He says a comprehensive study is needed to address the discrepancies.
Faleomavaega also says the territorial government has made tourism a priority but it will be difficult to attract foreign carriers to Pago Pago due to the lack of a physical control tower.
