A two-storey market has opened in Samoa as an alternative for farmers on Upolu following last year's demolition of the Fugalei market.
The new venue allows farmers to sell their crops in a clean environment and under shelter.
The closure of Fugalei led to criticism that the government had torn down the old market too early.
Our correspondent in Apia, Autagavaia Tipi Autagavaia, says a local businessman Komisi Chan Mow dedicated the new eight-million US dollar market to his 86 year old mother Lotte, who wanted it built for the farmers.
"It's going to be another good market. According to the family at the opening, this whole project of the market was behind seeing people in the sun, and in the rain, when the government pulled down the Fugalei market and with the intention to rebuild a new market in the same place."
