Vanuatu delegation in NZ to visit geothermal power plants

6:12 am on 16 July 2013

A Vanuatu delegation will this week visit New Zealand's north island to visit geothermal power plants, in a trip funded by New Zealand's government.

The Vanuatu's Minister for Lands, Ralph Regenvanu, says the visit will be important in helping to foster understanding of how a planned geothermal plant to be established by Kuth Energy of Australia at Takara in North Efate can work.

He says New Zealand has extensive knowledge and experience in geothermal power.

The Minister will lead a ten-member delegation which includes five representatives of different landowner groups with claims to the Takara area.

Mr Regenvanu says Maori custom landowners will show them around the plants which are run by Maori corporations who can advise them on how landowners in Vanuatu can manage the resources on their lands.

They will hold final talks with officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Wellington before returning to Vanuatu on Sunday.
