The French government has confirmed that a US Air Force team is in French Polynesia as part of a satellite monitoring mission.
This was confirmed by the French High Commission in Papeete after the website Tahiti-infos reported that US military officials were on Mangareva on behalf of an unnamed private company.
The site reported that containers have been shipped to Mangareva and published a US Air Force tendering document for shipping goods to the French territory.
The High Commission in Tahiti says the US military presence is in line with an accord signed with France eight years ago.
