Parents of students at American Samoan Community College were disappointed to find two inmates who escaped from the Tafuna Correctional Facility were found on a school campus.
The inmates who escaped, Ryan Pite and Ioane Faimata, were housed together when they hacked through their cell with a hacksaw and crawled to freedom on Wednesday.
The Police Commissioner, William Haleck, has told Samoa News that police were only made aware of the escape when security guards at the college contacted the correctional facility.
Both inmates were caught near the college, with Faimata found eating at the home of a family living nearby.
Mr Haleck says it is not known how a hacksaw got inside the correctional facility, but security has since been increased.
