No damage expected from quakes in PNG

Seismologists say two large earthquakes in Papua New Guinea this morning are unlikely to have caused any damage.

A 7 point 2 magnitude quake struck early this morning 110 kilometres northeast of New Ireland at a depth of 379km according to US Geological Survey.

A shallower 6.8 quake followed 2 hours later near Kandrian in West New Britain.

Jonathan Bathgate from GeoScience Australia says the quakes were too deep to cause any damage and no tsunmai warning was issued.
