Fiji's PM due in Solomons for Independence celebrations

Fiji's prime minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama is expected in Solomon Islands capital, Honiara, today where he is the government's special guest for the 35th Independence Anniversary Celebrations on Monday.

The Solomons prime minister, Gordon Darcy Lilo, invited the Fiji leader because he will not be involved in the tenth anniversary of the Regional Assistance Mission's arrival in the country, being held later this month.

Besides attending the independence celebrations, Commodore Bainimarama will meet with the governor general, Sir Frank Kabui, Mr Lilo and members of his cabinet.

He will also lay a wreath at the Fijian Second World War Cemetery at Varamata and unveil and a Fijian monument to Solomon Islands at the National Museum
