The Chair of the Samoa Rugby Union says change is needed in the national sevens team.

Samoa were beaten by Canada in the Plate final at the World Cup of Sevens last week, having failed to make the Cup quarter finals.

Vinnie Wylie reports.

"The chairman of the union and Prime Minister Tuila'epa Sa'ilele Malielegaoi, says while their performance was far better than the last two legs of the IRB World Series there were still problems. He says some players are getting old and needs to be replaced with new talent. The chairman also criticised the discipline of the older players in Moscow for not listening to coach Steven Betham's game plans. Betham was only in charge for the one-off tournament and the SRU expects to announce a permanent head coach later this month. Faamaoni Lalomilo, who was sacked at the end of the World Series in May, has reapplied for his old job."
