A twelve-year old girl has died in Indonesia's Papua province from a reported shootout between security forces and the OPM Free Papua Movement.

Tempo reports that the victim died from a bullet wound sustained as the joint-forces of Indonesian National Army, or TNI, and the National Police were in pursuit of OPM members in a remote part of the Highlands on Monday.

A TNI spokesman says the military command doesn't know whether the girl was shot by the TNI or by the separatists.

The TNI is reportedly investigating the death of the girl who was the daughter of a missionary family in Popome Village.
