Vanuatu have qualified for the last 32 at the Beach Volleyball World Championships in Poland, despite losing their final pool match overnight.

Miller Elwin and Henriette Iatika won the opening set 21-16 against the Italian pairing of Gioria Daniela and Laura Giombini but couldn't maintain their advantage to go down in three sets.

The Oceania champions end the pool phase with a one win, two loss record which is good enough to see them advance to the last 32.

Having achieved their initial aim, Miller Elwin says it's exciting to still be in contention.

"It's good because ]it's] the first time to the World Championships and I'm very proud to win some game and [be] still on in the tournament. You have to win the game to continue the tournament - the winner goes through to round nine and the loser goes to round seventeen."

Vanuatu's opponents in the next round will be the 15th seeds from the Czech Republic.
