Sport: Samoa hope to appoint next 7s coach by mid July

The Samoa Rugby Union says it expects to appoint a new national sevens coach in the next couple of weeks.

Former mentor Faamaoni Lalomilo was sacked in May following a disappointing IRB World Series campaign, with Stephen Betham taking charge at the World Cup in Moscow, where Samoa were beaten in the Plate final.

The SRU's General Manager of High Performance, Matthew Vaea, says applications for a permanent replacement have closed and they've been pleased with the response.

"Up to about 40-odd applications were received so there's quite a mix there we're going to go through tomorrow and go through that process once again. We have a board meeting tomorrow and next week we will start the interview process for both head coach and assistant coach/team manager."
