Vanuatu have made a winning start to the Beach Volleyball World Championships in Poland, upsetting a local pairing in straight sets.

Miller Elwin and Henriette Iatika are the first Pacific team to compete at the World Championships.

The Oceania winners have struggled for match play on the World Tour so far this season but were too good for the 12th seeds Renata Bekier and Agata Oleksy, winning 21-14 21-15.

Henriette Iatika says they tried to block the crowd the home crowd out of their heads.

"They have many supporters. Especially for me and Miller we focused on our game and concentrate. No matter the home crowd they support their teams but we really tried our best to ignore the supporters and then win our game."

Next up is the 13th ranked Brazilians, who also won their first match.
