Australia ups detainee numbers in PNG camp to 700

There are now more than 700 asylum seekers at the Australian run detention camp at Manus Island in Papua New Guinea.

A group of 43 men, 30 of whom are Iranians, have been flown to Manus today from Christmas Island.

It is the 18th group taken to the island since Australia implemented tough new rules in late July to move all subsequent would be refugees arriving by boat to PNG for the processing of their claims.

There are also 574 people, including 50 children, in the Australian-run camps on Nauru,.
