Fiji calls for overseas citizens to sign up to vote

4:17 am on 5 September 2013

Fiji's Elections Office is calling on overseas citizens to register their interest in voting.

The government says they can register their interest online.

It says it is the first step in the government's campaign to register overseas voters.

It says those interested in voting need a valid Fijian passport and they have been urged to get it renewed if necessary.

Fiji Broadcasting reports overseas voter registration will begin in New Zealand.

It reports the Fiji government is finalising plans for election officials to go to Auckland and Wellington after getting clearance from the New Zealand government.

The Fiji government has registered more than half a million voters under its new electronic voter registration system.
