The Samoan Prime Minister says the new Pacific Islands Development Forum will die a natural death.

Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi says he is still concerned the promised democratic elections in Fiji may not go ahead and he is waiting and seeing what eventuates.

He says Pacific countries like his need to offer assistance and support Fiji.

Fiji initiated a new forum this year and hosted Pacific countries as part of the Pacific Islands Development Forum.

Tuilaepa says he turned down Fiji's invitation for him to attend.

He says if the election goes ahead he expects Fiji to be welcomed back into the principal regional grouping.

"When Fiji has gone through the general elections, and providing it is fair, and the results accepted and he is admitted back to the Forum, then I think that organisation would die a natural death."
