An Indonesian soldier has been ambushed and killed in a clash between security personnel and armed separatists in remote Papua province.
The Jakarta Globe reports Private First Class Andry was on duty at a military post in the Tingginambut subdistrict of Puncak Jaya on Saturday afternoon, when a group of armed civilians reportedly attacked the post.
Indonesian soldiers and about 10 members of a group allegedly linked to the armed wing of the rebel Free Papua Movement (OPM), exchanged gunfire.
Andry was shot in his stomach and died immediately at the scene.
A spokesman for the TNI's Papua and West Papua Command Colonel Lismer Lumbar Siantar says the armed group managed to flee into the jungle after stealing some weaponry belonging to the soldiers.
