Sport: Wallis King welcomes Mini Games teams

The 20 countries and territories competing in the Pacific Mini Games in Wallis and Futuna have been welcomed at a traditional Kava ceremony over the weekend.

The ninth edition of the Mini Games in being held in the French territory for the first time and will be officially opened on Monday.

"The final delegations landed in Wallis late on Saturday and were up early the following morning for a combined church service in Mata-Utu. Proceedings then moved next door for the traditional Kava ceremony hosted by the Wallisian King on the royal grounds outside the Sagato Soane Palace. Sports ministers from the competing Pacific countries were welcomed along with their athletes before the King was presented with 65 pigs by the local village chiefs. The official opening ceremony for the Mini Games gets underway at the Kafika Stadium this afternoon."
